Evangelism

Evangelism refers to the practice of relaying information about a particular set of beliefs to others who do not hold those beliefs. The scriptures do not use the word evangelism, but evangelist is used in Acts 21:8, Ephesians 4:11, and 2 Timothy 4:5.

Why bother to evangelize?  What drives us with sustained energy to share the Good News of Salvation with others? Firstly, it is the command of Christ (the Great Commission) to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you…” and Secondly, it is about our love of God and our fellow men who are lost in their sins of unbelief.  Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 22:34-40.

Evangelism can be divided into three types of sharing the Gospel of Christ for Salvation. Creativity is always encouraged using the God-given talents and gifts that Christians now possess in the service of Christ and His church. They are:

  • Person to person witnessing
  • Small group discussion group, bible study, home meetings, etc.
  • Mass Evangelism through the air waves, internet, multi-media feeds, tv, movies, evangelistic Crusades, etc.

So that our joy may be complete, Jesus is speaking to His disciples then and now that we abide in His love:

John 15:9-17…”9 As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. 10 If you keep my  commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11 I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command you. 15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. 16 You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. 17 I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another”

  3. Well done with regard to posting on this topic. There isn’t sufficient content material published about this (not particularly great anyway). It is satisfying to see it getting a little bit more protection. Many thanks!
